Brix is
Open!
Espresso
Vivace has survived the eminent domain seizure of the Roasteria,
which closed forever on July 17th 2008, by opening a new Gran
Bar at 532 Broadway Ave East. The new coffee bar is 2000 square
feet and features our signature curved Italian stand-up bar done
this time in Caffe Forest Brown marble. This design reflects
Vivace’s 20 year history on Capitol Hill and the design combines
elements of our Roasteria and Sidewalk Bar. Personally, I am
very pleased with the look, feel, and easy flow of this new bar.
To pay tribute to our Roasteria, Brix has an under counter
mural, again painted using espresso coffee as a pigment
by artist Karen Eland, that depicts our 20 year history
on Broadway in sequential panels beginning in 1987 when
Geneva and I first built the Broadway Cart. The center
panel, shown here, depicts the Roasteria in its prime
with Tricia and Mary M. hosting the bar in their warm
personal style. In the panoramic view the different phases
of coffee research done at the shop are shown in small “elements” along
with artist Kurt Wenner depicted installing his mural “An
Italian in Algiers” in 1993.
On weekdays we offer free wireless along with wired ethernet
ports in our study and have abundant sidewalk seating
to watch the world go by.

Alley 24 opened March 15th 2006
Espresso
Vivace opened a new, 2000 square ft. espresso bar at 227 Yale
Ave N., in Alley 24 across from REI. Alley 24 represents our
sincere effort to create a place to savor our Northern Italian
espresso in a setting as beautiful as the coffee itself. Right
next to I-5, with plenty of parking compared to Capitol Hill,
this store is the place for our traveling Vivace lovers.

Permanent
art installations include a mural under the bar illustrating
history of the espresso painted entirely using espresso coffee
as the pigment by artist Karen Eland. In the floor we have installed
mosaic tile renderings of our coffee art patterns, shown here
is our world famous caffe latte rosetta. We also have commissioned
another mural by Italian master Kurt Wenner entitled “Vivi Vivace
I Vizu e le Virtu” (Live intensely your vices and virtues). We
will post this here after our unveiling on April 18th.

For our
marble selection we have paired Rainforest Green with Caffe Forest
Brown as our main selections with Brazilian Black Mosaico used
on two bars just to mix it up. Our new Alley 24 shop features
a glassed-in meeting room that seats 15 and can be reserved for
meetings at no charge. Of course we have free wireless.
